People’s desire for youth has helped develop cosmetic procedures and changed our lifestyle. Botox, a substance that is injected into the face, is a prime example. It got the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s approval just a decade ago after findings that the bacteria clostridium botulinum was an effective wrinkle treatment. Thanks to the discovery, the beauty trend has changed from having double-eyelid surgery or rhinoplasty to getting anti-aging procedures. At the same time, silicone-gel for breast augmentation was developed. It was commercialized after its safety was approved because it upgraded durability and the feel of breast implants. What cosmetic treatment will grip people’s attention after 10 years? Doctors say that there would appear more detailed and diverse surgeries or procedures as its target will grow not just for women but seniors wanting youth, men taking care of their looks and teenagers paying a great deal of attention to their appearance. Meanwhile, some procedures will disappear soon, doctors say. For instance, people may not get face lifting any more as cosmetic products, makeup skills and medicines will be improved that actualizes the commercial phrase “Forever 20s.” Hair transplant and liposuction also will be on the decline if new medicine is developed. The most important thing is to consider whether the purpose is proper or not rather how good the technology is; as some people could abuse it. For example, the movie Gattaca shows how technology made by human destroys people\'s life and humanity. In the movie, society has categorized Vincent Freeman, played by Ethan Hawke, as less than suitable given his genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. To prevent side effects like this, scientists and doctors should put the basic purpose first when they develop new technology.
