A total 1,013 people infected with the deadly Ebola virus have died the three days to Saturday out of 1848 reported cases in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. The World Health Organization announced eleven new Ebola cases and six deaths in Guinea, in addition to 45 cases and twenty-nine deaths in Liberia. The health authorities in Sierra Leone announced thirteen new Ebola cases and seventeen deaths.
The fourth West African Country facing the outbreak of Ebola virus is Nigeria which reported no new deaths.
Meanwhile, a panel of experts was convened by WHO to consider and assess the ethical implications for clinical decision-making of the potential use of unregistered interventions. They committee agreed that it is ethical to offer unproven interventions with as of yet unknown efficacy and adverse effects, as potential treatment or prevention. Liberia, one of four worst-hit West African countries, will receive an Ebola experimental drug from the US to treat doctors who have contracted the virus.
