Seven soldiers and four suspected Muslim militants were killed Thursday in a clash in the southern Philippines, the military said. Three soldiers were also wounded in the fighting in Sumisip town in Basilan province, 900 kilometres south of Manila, said Major General Ricardo Rainier Cruz, an army commander. Cruz said the troops were on patrol when they encountered an undetermined number of suspected members of the al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf rebel group.
