The Iraqi Foreign Ministry has officially announced the resumption of the diplomatic relations between the Iraqi and the Libyan republics, stressing Iraqi’s keenness on establishing strong relations between the two countries in all fields. The Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement, issued Wednesday, that resuming the diplomatic relations has followed communications and understandings exerted this year on various levels. They are keen on establishing close relations between the two countries in all fields that will benefit common issues and interests between civilians. Furthermore they want resumption in the historical relations between the two countries — which disappeared after diplomatic relations froze. The statement referred to the discussions held in Cairo on September 5 as a reason for resuming the Iraqi-Libyan relation. The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari and his Libyan counterpart, Saad Bin Khayal have agreed on resuming the relations between the two countries at the ambassador level. Both sides will exert the necessary facilities to hasten the exchange of the diplomatic delegations to start their work soon
