Several Israeli warplanes violated Lebanon’s airspace Sunday, flying over the southern region in contravention of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. Residents in the eastern area of south Lebanon told The Daily Star that Israeli warplanes flew over their areas at a low altitude, while security sources said the warplanes covered the entire region. The warplanes, along with some helicopters, also reached the airspace over the coastal city of Sidon, the sources said. Israeli planes, whether reconnaissance crafts or warplanes, violate Lebanon’s airspace almost daily in contravention of Resolution 1701 which ended the 2006 war between the two countries. Lebanon has repeatedly complained to the U.N. regarding such breaches. (daily star)
