The Jihadist Salafist Movement in Jordan announced the death of one of its members in Syria. Montaser Beiruti, who fought against the Syrian regime during clashes between the movement and the Free Syrian Army, was killed in a clash in Syria’s largest city, Aleppo. Beiruti was studying at the University of Yarmouk before he headed off to Syria to fight. The leader of the Salafist Movement, Mohammed Shalaby, stated that the Jordanian Salafis were in Syria to support the Syrians - not to fight with the free army. He revealed that a number of Salafi leaders have gone to Syria to study and observe the reality on the ground in order to evaluate the experience. He also pointed out that any clashes were a result of defence mechanisms on their behalf, accusing members of the free army of implementing unclear agendas.
