Libya launched, Saturday evening in Benghazi, “Reform and Development Party” as its first political party three days after the since the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC) suspended the law of “criminalizing parties” which h by the late Cad been in application under Colonel Muammar Gaddafi since 1972. The party’s declaration was attended by number of Islamists personalities in the Libyan society, in which the Party’s Constituent Committee stated that Reform and Development Party is a political party with Islamic reference. The head of Party’s Constituent Committee, Sheikh Khaled Al-Warshfani said “this party aims to achieve the political reforms in Libya and to activate the freedom of forming political parties and community development associations.” He explained the reason of choosing “Reform and Development” as a name for the party, saying it was because the party’s members believe that reform and development are the most important issues for Libya in the next phase, but that doesn’t mean to overlook other issues. He pointed out that; this political party is believes in the needs for community dialogue, and seeks to rebuild Libya to be a state of institutions.
