Benghazi - Emad Agag
All prisoners escaped from Hawari jail in Benghazi after it was attacked by armed men, Libyan security source confirmed. The source, who preferred not to be named, said “all prisoners were supporters of the former regime, who were arrested during the uprising against Muammar Gaddafi, and some of them were non-Libyan fighters, or African mercenaries.” He added that the attack was swift and deliberate, assuring that there were no killed or wounded on both sides, while the security forces in Benghazi could not capture any of the escaped prisoners or the gunmen who attacked the jail. He also said that security patrols have been deployed in Benghazi to capture any suspected person. Eyewitnesses said heavy gunfire was heard during the raid, in addition to a few grenades, which caused a state of emergency in the city. It is worth mentioning that hundreds of political activists and people of Benghazi are gathering at Shajara Square calling to correct the path of the revolution, despite the heavy rains and cold weather.
