Myanmar's Parliament.

Myanmar's parliament has approved the country's efforts to join the International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation (OPRC) as called for by President U Htin Kyaw, parliament sources said Saturday.

The parliament members stressed that the convention is aimed at taking prompt measures to combat major incidents or threat of marine oil pollution, saying that the country could benefit by establishing measures for dealing with pollution incidents in cooperation with other member countries.

They spoke of the convention's reimbursement scheme in the event of a pollution emergency.

According to the sources, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, China, India and Bangladesh have signed the convention.
