Russia's top investigative body says six people have been arrested in St. Petersburg on suspicion of "aiding terrorist activities."

The Investigative Committee said in a statement on Wednesday that the men arrested come from former Soviet Central Asian republics.

The investigators suspect that they have been recruiting Central Asian men to join the ranks of the Islamic State group and other extremist organizations in St. Petersburg since November 2015.

It is worth noting that a suicide bomber on a subway train in Russia's second-largest city killed 14 and injured dozens on Monday.

The statement Wednesday says: "At this moment the investigators have no evidence of connection or acquaintance of the detained with executor of the terrorist action in the St. Petersburg metro
