The African Union is ready to discuss with representatives of the National Transitional Council the possibility of recognizing Libya’s interim leadership, after the council made certain commitments in Paris during a summit this week. The National Transitional Council assured the African Union that it would protect African workers in Libya. The comments came Thursday during a conference on Libya's future that included representatives of 60 nations and the NTC. The 54-nation African Union has yet to recognize the NTC as Libya's legitimate government. However, at least 13 African countries have recognized the NTC, including Nigeria, Ethiopia and Ivory Coast.
