Tehran - Irna
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the awakening of nations will disappoint hegemonic powers in gaining their colonial objectives. He made the remark during a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart Michel Suleiman in New York. The two presidents are in New York to attend the 66th UN General Assembly session. The Iranian and Lebanese leaders reviewed the most important regional issues and called on the nations to keep their vigilance regarding regional developments. They also underlined the importance of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Beirut. President Ahmadinejad said resistance and firm will were the only way for victory of the regional nations against the bullying powers. He reiterated that the powers which used to act as colonialists are now making their presence under the alluring disguise of defending the rights of nations but are in fact following their old benefits of looting the wealth of nations. He said the colonial powers were now seeking ways to save the Zionist regime and rescue their own collapsing economies but they have to realize that the regional nations are already awakened and will make the colonists fail in gaining their objectives. President Ahmadinejad also said that Iran and Lebanon were in the same front because of their common interests and enemies and noted that the deepening and consolidating of bilateral relations and cooperation would reinforce peace, stability and security in the region. The Lebanese president, for his part, termed ties with Iran as extensive, historical and deeply-rooted and said ties between the two nations reinforced the resistance of regional nations. He said the regional nations could accomplish great success through unity and solidarity and urged them to be careful and vigilant in their plans.
