Arab Parliament Speaker Mishaal bin Fahm al Salami welcomed the US decision to lift economic sanctions imposed on Sudan in 1997 and 2006.
The US administration said the decision comes in line with the positive measures taken by Sudan's government to cease hostilities in all conflict areas, improve the delivery of humanitarian aid as well as to cooperate with Washington to resolve regional conflicts and counter terrorism.
The Arab Parliament speaker reiterated his demand to remove Sudan's name from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
In this regard, Salami noted that he sent a written message in May to the speaker of the US House of Representatives in which he demands that economic sanctions on Sudan be totally lifted and that Sudan's name be removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
This demand, he said, comes because Sudan is a key country in fighting terrorism in the Arab and Islamic worlds.
