At least three people were killed and another five wounded in a blast in Kandahar in south Afghanistan, a police source said on Sunday. The blast occurred early on Sunday in the fourth municipal district of Kandahar. The bomb was planted near a police check point. The explosion killed three police officers and injured another two. Three passers-by were also wounded in the explosion, the police source said. The radical militant group Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. Violence has flared in Afghanistan since the killing by U.S. commandos of al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden in neighboring Pakistan on May 2.
