Philippine Police defused a suspected explosive device on a main road in Manila Monday near the United States embassy. 
Parts of Roxas Boulevard were closed for two hours during rush hour, causing heavy traffic. The office of the US embassy was evacuated. 
The Manila police responded to a call that a "suspicious package" was found in a trash can which belongs to the Department of Public Works and Highways near the US embassy. 
Police found a cellphone with wires attached to a bottle-like container. 
DZMM radio said two explosions were heard from the area as the Manila police explosives division team detonated the device.
