Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met here last night with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. During the meeting, the two Presidents discussed ways of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in all fields as well as the Palestinian bid for UN membership. Chavez reiterated support for the Palestinian bid saying that Palestine is a country and everybody should support its cause and recognize it as an independent state at the United Nations. Chavez added that all Venezuelan people support the Palestinian issue, not only in terms of its accession to the United Nations as an independent state, but also to regain its occupied territories.
