The Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs managed to free three Egyptian nationals who had been detained in Ethiopia for several months in the wake of the latest political unrest sweeping some parts of the country.

Taha Mansour, Hany el Aqqad and Hassan Ramadan left Addis Ababa on Wednesday evening heading for Cairo without being convicted of any charges, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

From the first moment the Egyptians got detained, the ministry exerted all possible efforts at all levels to secure their release, he added.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, upon directives from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, paid a visit to Ethiopia in November 2016 and discussed the issue with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, he said.

Shoukry has also been in contact with his Ethiopian counterpart to follow up the measures taken to free the Egyptian nationals, said the spokesman, noting that the last contact between Cairo and Addis Ababa top diplomats was last week.
