Italian President Giorgio Napolitano today assigned Florence Mayor and Democratic Party leader Matteo Renzi to form the new government following the resignation of Prime Minister Enrico Letta.

Italian News Agency (ANSA) said that President Napolitano had asked Matteo to assume the position of Prime Minister and form the new government.
