HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that he has discussed during his meeting with his US Counterpart Rex Tillerson in Washington the current situation in the Middle East, besides cooperation in the fight against terrorism in light of the threats currently facing the world and ways to reduce them.
In a statement to the (Asharq Al-Awsat) newspaper published Thursday, HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs said that his talks with the US Secretary of State yesterday dealt with the situation in the region, especially in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya.
Moreover, HE said that there are many common points of view between the two countries, in particular, the emphasis on the need to find solutions to combat terrorism and extremism in all its forms, and the necessity of the solutions to be within a comprehensive framework that meets the aspirations of the peoples of the region and the world.
HE the Foreign Minister noted that the State of Qatar's relations with the United States are historic and strong as the US is a strong ally and partner, adding that the Qatari-US partnership currently includes a wide range of strategic, economic and cultural interests.
HE described his meeting with his US Counterpart as constructive and positive, pointing out that Tillerson led a strong partnership between Qatar and the United States in the energy and oil sector in the past, and that the two countries will continue to work together in order to strengthen this partnership in all fields.
Regarding the two countries' historic relationship, HE Minister of Foreign Affairs said that they agreed to continue to work to strengthen this historic relationship for the good of the two countries, as it is very important to cooperate to promote peace and stability in the region in light of the challenges and geopolitical shifts.
