French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed Prime Minister Saad Hariri's withdrawal of the resignation he had announced from Riyadh in November, a statement by the Elysee indicated on Tuesday night.
"President Macron took note of the political declaration issued by the Cabinet, which convened extraordinarily under the chairmanship of President Michel Aoun, and which allowed Prime Minister Saad Hariri to renege on his resignation and return to his post again," the statement read.
"France will be attentive to the respect of the commitments pledged by the Lebanese sides. President Macron has equally noted the Lebanese Cabinet's reaffirmation of the dissociation policy from regional conflicts," it added.
The statement also maintained "France's commitment to siding with Lebanon and to carrying on work to enhance its stability, security, and sovereignty, in coordination with the local authorities and the international community."
"It is with this aim in mind that President Emmanuel Macron will open on Friday, in Paris, the meeting of the International Support Group for Lebanon in the presence of Prime Minister Hariri," it concluded
