Gargash continues meetings with senior UN officials and foreign ministers

Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has continued holding bilateral political meetings with key participating officials and foreign ministers at the 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly, at the UN headquarters.

Dr. Gargash met with Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, where they reviewed the dire humanitarian situation in many conflict areas, especially in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and the Gaza Strip, among others, as well as the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees', UNHCR, efforts to provide assistance in accordance with international law.

Dr. Gargash met with Cambodia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, where they discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing them across all sectors. The two parties also discussed regional and international issues on the UN agenda that are of mutual concern.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs also met with Pierre Krahenbuhl, Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, UNRWA. The two parties discussed the deteriorating situation in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip as well as that of the Palestinian Diaspora in Syria and Lebanon. They also spoke on funding and security challenges faced by UNRWA during the implementation of its mandate.

Dr. Anwar Gargash reiterated the UAE's support for UNRWA, praising the important humanitarian role it plays to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian refugees.

Mr. Krahenbuhl expressed his appreciation of the UAE's generous humanitarian and developmental contributions to support programmes that alleviate the suffering of refugees.
