Sheikh Hassan Youssef, one of the founders of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, was released after almost six years in Israeli prisons, The Jerusalem Post reported Friday. Youssef, 56, was freed along with hundreds of other prisoners due to overcrowding in Israeli prisons, said the Israeli newspaper. Deputy Palestinian Prisoner Affairs Minister Ziad Abu Ein said that "about seventy prisoners serving their sentences in Israeli prisons" are awaiting their release without giving details as to the identities of the additional prisoners.
