President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is convinced that Indonesia has adequate capacity to mediate the conflict

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is convinced that Indonesia has adequate capacity to mediate the conflict in Afghanistan.

"Indonesia has the capacity to contribute to the peace efforts in Afghanistan," President Jokowi said after hosting a delegation from the Afghan High Peace Assembly at the Grand Garden Restaurant of the Bogor Botanical Garden complex on Tuesday.

According to Jokowi, Indonesia has become a role model for the world, as its people practice a tolerant and moderate form of Islam.

Hence, Indonesia is ready to help Afghanistan resolve the conflict to create peace in the region, Jokowi remarked.

To this end, the president said Indonesia will facilitate top leaders of the High Peace Council of Afghanistan to meet representatives of Islamic mass organizations, including Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah.

"This afternoon, (they) will meet (leaders of) Muhammadiyah, NU, and ulemas. They will visit an Islamic boarding school to observe why the people in Indonesia can peacefully co-exist in harmony," President Jokowi pointed out.

Accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, President Jokowi hosted a delegation from Afghanistan led by Muhammed Khalili.

During the meeting, some 35 delegates from the Afghan Higher Peace Assembly participated in the event to meet the president and vice president of the Republic of Indonesia
