Manama - Arab Today
Saudi Ambassador to Bahrain Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Malik Al Shaikh said the ballistic missile launched from Yemen on Riyadh last Tuesday for the second time within six weeks and which was intercepted by the Saudi air defence forces before reaching its goal is considered as a cowardly attack by Iran-backed militias in Yemen that contravenes international principles and laws.
In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the ambassador noted that launching a missile capable of crossing a long distance from the Yemeni territories to Riyadh, is a proof that the missile is very advanced and beyond the militias’ capabilities. He added that this is a new evidence of the participation of experts from Iran and Hizbollah in assembling, developing and launching it from the Yemeni territories towards the Saudi ones. He stressed that this is an assertion of the Iran’s interference in Yemen, its support to the coup militias and targeting of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He also affirmed that this is a violation of the UN resolution (2231) and the Security Council’s resolution (2216) which bans the armament of the coup militias in Yemen.
The Saudi ambassador emphasised that launching missiles from Yemen to target civil and populated regions in KSA contravenes the international law and threatens the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well as regional and international security. He added, it is also in breach of all religious and international principles and values. He also affirmed that the aggression requires the international community to assume its responsibility to stop the Iranian violations and threatening of regional peace and security.
