Islamabad - Arab Today
General John Nicholson, Commander of Resolute Support and U.S. Forces - Afghanistan, and Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif today discussed regional security issues including the management of Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
Earlier today, the Torkham border crossing was re-opened after it was closed for several days. The closure followed deadly clashes between the two countries over the construction of a gate on the Pakistani side to control cross-border movement.
The Pakistani military justified the construction of the gate at Torkham, saying "terrorists" were using the crossing point.
Torkham is one of the major crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, where hundreds of trucks and thousands of people cross the border daily.
A Pakistan’s foreign ministry spokesman said, "Only passport holders will be allowed from Afghan side."
