Cairo - Arab Today
Islamophobia Observatory of Egypt's Darul Iftaa hailed the United Nations Security Council resolution calling for banning Israeli settlements building in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a statement on Saturday, the observatory called for pressing Israel to put the resolution into effect in order for the Palestinians to restore their rights to establish an independent Palestinian state with al Quds as its capital.
The observatory highlighted the importance of the Arab and international moves to implement the resolution.
The observatory voiced hope that the resolution would mark an important step for promoting peace efforts to hold an international peace conference and launch a multilateral political process to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and realize regional peace.
The observatory warned of the repercussions of the continued Israeli violations and racial practices.
The United States on Friday allowed the UNSC to adopt the resolution demanding an end to Israeli settlement building, defying heavy pressure from long-time ally Israel and President-elect Donald Trump for Washington to wield its veto.
A US abstention paved the way for the 15-member council to approve the resolution, with 14 votes in favor, prompting applause in the council chamber.
