A top Israeli official on Tuesday denied that influential Palestinian leader Marwan Barghuti, jailed for his role in the second intifada, would be freed in return for the release of Gilad Shalit. Yoram Cohen, head of the Shin Bet internal intelligence service, said that neither Barghuti nor Ahmad Saadat, the jailed head of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, were among those slated for release. "Ahmed Saadat, Marwan Barghuti... are are not going to be released," he told reporters in Jerusalem.
