Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, on Thursday, launched the Jakarta Senior Citizen Card (KLJ) for the capital city`s elderly population.
The card was launched during the commemoration of National Social Solidarity Day held at the Monas Square, Central Jakarta.
"Today, we have senior citizens gathered here. Today, we launch the Jakarta Senior Citizen Card. The amount (of money) that we are offering is to help them. We want our seniors to enjoy their life," Baswedan noted.
The program has been a priority program of the governor outlined during the gubernatorial election campaign.
The governor revealed that 14,520 cards were distributed to senior citizens during the occasion, and each of them would receive monthly social assistance of Rp600 thousand.
"(The fund) could be withdrawn every month from the DKI Bank," Baswedan added.
KLJ beneficiaries were determined based on data of Desil 1 from the Integrated Data Base. Desil 1 is data on 10 percent individuals, with the lowest level of welfare.
The governor has instructed mayors and all related institutions in the city to intensify data collection on senior citizens.
He also called on the public to share information if they found any senior citizen in need of social assistance.
"We hope that our seniors could receive the assistance and use it appropriately. No senior citizens should be abandoned," Baswedan remarked.
On the occasion, Baswedan also delivered wheelchairs, sticks, hearing aids, reading glasses, prosthetic limbs, and stationery to citizens
