Ballot centers opened in Kenya this morning for the electorate who will elect a new president for the country

Ballot centers opened in Kenya this morning for the electorate who will elect a new president for the country, members for parliament and provincial governors and MPs in a general election marred by the memory of violent and gory riots triggered by last presidential elections in 2007.

Many people were killed including policemen who succumbed in Mombasa in a shooting only a few hours before ballot stations opened for the electorate, according to a police report quoted by France Press.

A spokesman from the Kenyan Police said that policemen answered an SOS only to become trapped in a bushwhack and also that five policemen were killed in two separate attacks.

Premier Raila Odinaga and deputy premier Uhuru Kenyatta both are competing for the presidential seat. (IY)
