A man has been arrested near the US embassy in Berlin and a suitcase he was carrying is being examined for explosives, police said Friday.

    Security personnel alerted police after the man acted suspiciously near the embassy premises, a spokesman said. He declined to give further details about the suspect.

    Berlin's Pariser Platz, where the embassy and the city's iconic Brandenburg Gate are located, has been cordoned off, dpa reported.
