Moscow hopes to restore relations with Washington to their previous level and is not seeking confrontation with the United States, NATO and the European Union.

"Russia is not seeking confrontation either with the U.S., NATO or the European Union and has never been the initiator of such confrontation. It is obvious that a confrontational approach only serves to slow down efforts to restore the optimal vector of global development, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in his lecture at Mongolia's Foreign Ministry.

"We hope that Russian-American ties will eventually return to their normal trajectory. And it is possible to do this exclusively on the basis of mutual respect and the balance of interests," the minister added.

"Quite content-rich interaction between Russia and the U.S. continues today," the Russian foreign minister said.

"We, as co-chairs of the International Syria Support Group, have managed to agree upon a settlement roadmap, have managed to secure a broadening of humanitarian access to the population in need, as well as secure the start of a political process. Today, Moscow and Washington are engaged in an active dialogue at the high level on these issues and others," he said in conclusion.
