US President Barack Obama conferred here today with UN General Assembly President Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser. Obama and Al Nasser reviewed during the meeting a number of important issues on the international scene as well as issues concerning the Middle East, and changes in the Arab region. They also discussed the Palestinian move to request the Security Council to recognize Palestine as a full member of the United Nations. The talks also touched on the divergent positions that may arise from such a move both in terms of reactions within the Security Council and in relation to other UN member states, taking into consideration the US position which currently prefers negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and wants an opportunity to be given for the Quartet, the US efforts and other actors to make progress similar to the move towards the UN. They also discussed during the meeting other topics related to the UN General Assembly\'\'s recognition of the Libyan National Transitional council as legitimate representative of the Libyan people in the United Nations.
