Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) praised the resolution of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) confirming that Al Aqsa is Muslim site with no Jewish history and condemning Israeli violations thereto.
OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine Affairs Ambassador Samir Bakr hailed in a statement the efforts of the Islamic Group at the organization for the issuing the resolution which has received support of 33 of the UNESCO member state, and opposition to six countries, with 17 countries abstaining.
The decision is an important document added to the international documents confirming the Islamic and Arabic identity of Al-Aqsa mosque as well as establishing Palestinian rights, he said.
The UNESCO resolution reaffirmed that the Mughrabi Gate Road is an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. It also stressed the Arab identity of the dozens of sites inside the Old City of Jerusalem, and documented strong condemnation of the attacks and violations of the occupation authorities against the Christian symbols and religious buildings in Jerusalem, calling on the Israeli authorities to stop preventing any Muslims from the right to access and pray in Al-Aqsa, and denouncing Israeli obstruction of 18 projects to maintain the Al-Aqsa mosque.
