President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday said Iraq was an important country of the Islamic world and Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Iraq.
The president said this while talking to Ambassador-designate to Iraq Sajid Bilal who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. Senior officials were also present on the occasion.
The president stated that Pakistan had very cordial relations with Iraq which were further strengthened by the historical and religious links. Therefore, it was necessary to increase cooperation in different sectors including education, culture and trade, the president said.
He also directed that efforts for the enhancement of mutual cooperation should be intensified. He underlined that there were vast opportunities of trade between Pakistan and Iraq and continuous efforts were required for the optimal utilization of their true potential.
The president also stressed that priority should be given to the exchange of delegations of traders and industrialists in this regard.
