In a bid to quell suspicions among its western counterparts that Pakistani military officials are suspected of fraternising with militant groups, the army is now making an attempt to conduct inquiries internally, as the arrest of Brigadier Ali Khan for alleged links to extremist organisation shows. By all accounts the military has taken the best step forward. The army is stretched to the limit combating extremist forces internally and on the border with Afghanistan. Many capable officers and soldiers have lost their lives in this cause. They have now decided to demonstrate to their critics that their commitment to fighting terrorism cannot be questioned. The age-old military values that are instilled into every soldier are at stake and the Pakistani army will not compromise on them. The army has repeatedly denied its links with any terrorist or extremist organisation. It conducts its investigations privately but this time in an effort to ensure that it is not maligned further it has taken the prudent decision. From gulfnews.
