The recent Israeli-Palestinian talks, hosted by Jordan, have been discussed during US President Barack Obama's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.


According to the White House, Obama reaffirmed his commitment to the goal of a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region.

The International Quartet sought in October to revive peace talks, laying out a timeline they said should yield concrete proposals from both sides by January 26.

The major issues dividing the two sides include the borders of a Palestinian state, the fate of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the status of Jerusalem and the fate of Palestinian refugees.

It is to be noted that talks resumed following a long break after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas suspended them15 months ago over Israel's expansion of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank.
