US President Barack Obama has signed into law tough new sanctions targeting the financial institutions which are still dealing with Iran's central bank and financial sector.
The new legislation allows some exceptions to avoid destabilizing the global oil markets.
The White house said President had signed the new law in Hawai where he is currently spending his vacations.
The law also contained mammoth $ 662 defense bill.
The toughened sanctions with target Iran's Central Bank are meant to pressurize Iran into giving up its nuclear programme.
