Moscow - Arab Today
Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message of congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his election as president of the French Republic, the Kremlin press service said Monday.
"The people of France have elected you to the highest office in your country in a challenging period for Europe and the international community in general," The Kremlin cited Putin as saying in a statement.
Putin noted that the growing threat of terrorism and violent extremism goes hand in hand with the escalation of local conflicts and destabilization of the entire region.
"Against this backdrop, it is especially important to overcome mutual distrust and unite efforts to ensure international stability and security," he said.
In the message, the Russian president also reaffirmed Moscow's readiness to work together constructively with Paris on matters concerning bilateral, regional and global agenda, and expressed confidence that this would serve the vital interests of the people of both countries.
Putin also wished the newly elected French president good health, well-being and success in fulfilling important duties as the head of state.
