Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi affirmed their support to reaching a political solution for the crisis in Syria.
In a joint press conference held in Cairo on Monday following the signing of agreements between Russia and Egypt, Putin said that he informed el-Sisi about the efforts of Russia to resolve the crisis in Syria, adding that Syria is close to liberating the entirety of its territory from the terrorists with the support of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
Putin said that the Russian and Egyptian sides are in agreement on strengthening cooperation and coordination to reach the political solution for the crisis in Syria, adding that the Syrian National Dialogue Congress due to be held in Sochi aims at achieving the greater participation of spectrum of opposition, including the Moscow and Cairo platforms.
For his part, el-Sisi pointed out that his talks with the President Putin have given considerable attention to the situation in Syria and ways to ensure reaching the political settlement as soon as possible.
He clarified that the two sides stressed on the continuation of joint work to maintain the de-escalation zones and expand them with the aim of creating suitable conditions for the political process.
El-Sisi said that he and the President Putin expressed support to the Syrian talks in Geneva to reach the comprehensive political solution which will achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people, and preserve Syria’s unity, territorial integrity, and its state institutions.
