Romania's President Klaus Iohannis rejected the leftist Social Democrat Party's (PSD) Sevil Shhaideh for prime minister , he said on Tuesday.
Saying he "carefully evaluated the proposal", Iohannis said he rejects her and asked the PSD to nominate another person to head the next government.
Shhaideh, 52, a regional development minister with limited political exposure and experience, would have become the first female and the first Muslim prime minister of Romania.
Together with its long-time ally ALDE, the PSD has an outright majority in parliament with 250 members in the 465-seat two-house assembly, allowing them to easily give their government a vote of confidence and pass legislation.
