Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Brazilian counterpart Michel Temer called for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria as soon as possible and preserving its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a joint statement following their talks in Moscow on Wednesday, the two presidents stressed the need for a political solution to the crisis in Syria that is based on the UNSC resolution No. 2254 issued on December 18th, 2015 and a political process led by the Syrians themselves to maintain Syria’s sovereignty and respect the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.
According to the statement, the two sides voiced support to the ongoing talks in Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations, welcoming the agreement reached in Astana on May 4th, 2017 which provides for establishing de-escalation zones in Syria.
Holding a joint press conference with his Brazilian counterpart, President Putin expressed Russia’s intention to enhance coordination with Brazil to face all threats, combat terrorism and maintain peace and security throughout the world.
