President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Tuesday with a delegation of the Italian parliament to discuss bilateral relations and efforts to overcome the different challenges. 

Sisi told the Italian MPs that Egypt won't forget Rome's support for the will of the Egyptian people in the wake of the June 30 revolution, said presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef. 

The Italian MPs assured Sisi their country will continue to back Egypt in the face of security and economic challenges, Youssef added. 

They hailed as "pivotal" the role played by Egypt in the Middle East region, not to mention its efforts to counter terrorism and illegal migration, the spokesman said. 

Sisi underlined the need to boost joint cooperation and coordination to eliminate those challenges, Youssef further said.

The president, he added, called for intensified international efforts to cut funding and stop logistic support for terrorist organizations. 

Sisi also pressed for action to reach political solutions to regional crises, believing this would help national institutions in countries of conflict secure their borders against terrorism and illegal migration, the spokesman noted. 

The meeting also took up developments concerning the case of Italian student Giulio Regeni, who had been killed in Egypt, with Sisi urging further cooperation between Cairo and Rome to bring perpetrators to justice, Youssef added.
