President Abdel Fattah El Sisi expressed Egypt's keenness on the effective role played by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in the issues of the refugees and illegal migration which accumulated after conflicts and crises have increased in the Middle East region.
He stressed the importance of tackling these issues in the international events by the IPU to help find solutions for it.
The president's remarks came during a meeting IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong on the sidelines of celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of establishing the Egyptian Parliament.
The meeting was attended by Egyptian Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal.
During the meeting, Sisi expressed his appreciation for the participation of the IPU represented by its secretary general in the celebration, according to presidential spokesman Alaa Yousef.
The president underscored that Egypt has been keen on rendering its democratic experience successful via promoting the values of participation, co-existence and respecting the other.
He further underlined the need of boosting co-existence values by the IPU via getting the nations acquainted with the civilizations of other peoples and understanding of the upright teachings of religion to prevent extremist practices.
For his part, Chungong congratulated Sisi on Egypt's celebrations with passage of 150 years after establishment of its parliament, lauding the efforts it exerted through history to enrich the parliamentary work.
He further reiterated that the IPU will continue its cooperation with the Egyptian Parliament, pointing out to the cooperation agreement inked between the two sides.
Chungong said that he totally agreed with Sisi in the importance of tackling the issues of terrorism, refugees and illegal migration, pointing out to the efforts exerted by the IPU to enhance the international dialogue on these problems to find solutions for it and achieve peace as well as stability in the whole world.
