Slovakia will create a special inter-ministerial coordination committee for the Brexit negotiations, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Ivan Korcok stated at a press conference on Wednesday.
"We don't underestimate the difficulties surrounding the negotiations. Each ministry will carry out an overview of valid legislation in its area so that we won't underestimate anything," he said, noting that such measures would prepare Slovakia for the Brexit negotiations in order to defend its interests as well the interests of the other European Union (EU) member states.
Korcok also mentioned that following the official notification of the Brexit process, which is expected to take place mid-March, an extraordinary EU summit devoted to Brexit would be held, most likely on April 6.
"The fundamental principles that the EU will seek in the Brexit negotiations will be adopted at the summit," said Korcok, adding that neither Slovakia nor the other EU-member states wanted to punish Britain for its departure from the EU.
