Two Moroccans arrested in Badona

Two Moroccans aged 25 and 27 have been arrested in Badona in the province of Barcelona on suspicion of belonging to the Islamic State, known better as ISIS, said the Spanish Ministry of Interior in a communiqué on Tuesday.

The arrest was carried out by the Chief of Information of the Civil Guard and the Information Section of the Catalonia Area.

The ministry said that an investigation by the Guardia Civil revealed that the two suspects were in contact with ISIS members currently in “conflict zones.”

According to the source, the suspects had been supporting ISIS financially through illegal activities including drug trafficking and robbery.

The suspects had also been “indoctrinating and recruiting new jihadist members for ISIS by disseminating propagandist ideas online,” according to the ministry. “The detainees have managed to “brainwash several people, who were fully convinced to travel to the conflict zone to join the terrorist groups.

The suspects had been in constant communication through secure online platforms as well as a number of telephone lines likely registered with false identities, the ministry added.

The ministry also noted that Spanish Security Forces and Security Corps have arrested 185 terrorists linked to ISIS since the country raised the national anti-terror threat level to four in 2015 following deadly terrorist attacks in Europe.
