Spanish government

The Spanish government reaffirmed its support for a national government in Libya that would be able to put an end to conflicts, terrorism and human trafficking in the war-torn country.

Within this context, the Spanish government reiterated, in a statement, its full support to the efforts exerted by the UN to help reach an agreement between the warring parties.

Spain also voiced concern about recent drowning incidents in the Mediterranean Sea that left dozens killed and missing.

More than 100 died, 200 others rescued and dozens lost when a ship with 400 passengers on board sank on Thursday off the Libyan shores.

Two rival governments are fighting each other in Libya and unable to gain the upper hand, while former rebel groups that helped topple late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 compete for power, creating a security vacuum.
