The UAE Embassy in Italy earlier this week participated in a conference in Rome which reviewed defence strategies in Europe, with the participation of Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Roberta Pinotti, the Italian Minister of Defence.

The conference, which was organised by the Rome-based Istituto Affari Internazionali, IAI, or International Business Institute, was also attended by a host of military personnel, politicians and diplomats, as well as a number of European security and defence officials.

Speaking at the conference, Mogherini stressed the impact of the economic, political and security transformation facing the world and Europe, saying that it is imperative for EU countries to implement new measures and policies that will enhance cooperation among them in order to meet the accelerating risks and challenges, in coordination with NATO.

The Italian Defence Minister in turn stressed the important role that the ministry and Italian security forces play in cooperating and working closely with the EU, with Italy being the gateway to Europe
