UNHRC

The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) approved on Thursday a draft resolution proposed by Egypt on the right to work.

Egypt’s initiative was supported by 56 member states including France, UK, Germany, Greece, China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria and Argentina.

The increasing rates of unemployment, which hit the highest levels in North Africa at 23 percent, are the worst violations against human rights, Egypt’s Permanent Envoy to the United Nation in Geneva Amr Ramadan said.

Defending basic human rights should go through rights to work which would be maintained by creation of new jobs, he added.

The resolution, drafted by Egypt, addressed challenges that are facing young people on way to find jobs, the diplomat said.
