Beirut - Arab Today
British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond Thursday said Lebanon played an important role in the front against terrorism, vowing continued support for the country's military, The Daily Star reported.
"We are happy that the Lebanese Army is putting our support into practice by strengthening border security and confronting ISIS, thus protecting the integrity of Lebanon and keeping it distanced from attacks,” Hammond said after meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam at the latter’s Beirut residence in Moseitbeh.
The U.K. official said that he discussed Lebanon’s overall political and economic situation with Salam and the Syrian refugee crisis, according to a statement in Arabic issued by Salam's media office.
Lebanon’s already poor infrastructure has been further weakened by the presence of around 1.5 million Syrian refugees on its territory.
