The United States launched air strikes against Taliban insurgents who stormed the strategic opium-rich district of Sangin in southern Afghanistan, NATO said Thursday.

"US forces conducted two strikes in Sangin... on December 23 against threats to the force," a spokesman for the military coalition said.
